I'll wait it out!

DRAMA!!!
Whilst test driving on a rolling road, a huge clunk and grinding sounded and the engine stalled, i tried starting again, nothing, i depressed the clutch, it started and died again, then it wouldn't start at all!
I have once, on a type 4, had the starter cog jam behind the flywheel with the same symptoms, i stripped most peripherals and dropped engine, what faced me was a shocker!
The flywheel had come off!
The bellhousing wasnt too bad, just scuffing, i cleaned it up and replaced flywheel, oil seals, and cowels, the crank was not bad. due to time pressure, i reinstalled engine and we were running well , no oil leaking!!!
Bad times but up and running again!
Bugger!

the leak is worsening.
The pictures are of my fan housing removed and you can see all oil and grime that has been thrown all over engine bay!
Im starting to think oil leak might be rear main seal - but i have just changed it for origional german oil seal :113-105-245/F/GEN
I will drive until it goes properly!
Uh Oh!

Leak is getting worse, I stripped down to oil cooler whilst engine in.
. remove air filter and pipes
. remove carby
. remove foil air pipes
. remove hinges and boot lid
. remove thermostat
. remove throttle cable and pipe
. remove fan belt
. remove generator cables AFTER DISCONNECTING BATT
. remove coil cables
. remove fan housing
. reach in under the breast plate tinware and undo the 8mm bolts with open ended spanner - don't drop them!
. remove oil cooler
I changed seals. I had over tightened them. 5lbs torque is the setting!
I replaced them and re-assembled.
As you can see from pics, they were crushed originally!
....
Still a leak just not as bad.
All fired up and drives like a dream!
All Back together, pictures to be added!

Engine back in!
8 rolls of sound deadener later it is quiet as a mouse. I used accoustic flashing, about £30 for a few rolls from a building supplly merchant like Parkers...
One roll of butyl weather strip around engine bay valance on inside.
Chrome firewall installed, that stuff can slice of fingers!!
Ready to fire up in the morning after a quick point adjustment to .16 thou.
Timing and carby adjustment as per vwresource.com
